Who Are You? Finding Our Common Ground as LGB and T Youth

Presenters: Mazzoni Center’s Student LEADership Board- Caitlyn Ullman, Dalena Nguyen,
Melanie Millwood, Rachel Purdom

The best way to start off the day is by getting to know those around us. As Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, and Queer youth, our experiences may be different, but we can find a common ground to make our shared spaces safer. Using interactive games and activities, this presentation will teach youth how to know themselves and how to get to know each other, as well as how to approach the day eliminating right and wrong and providing each grace, trust, and love. We will talk about the different parts of our identity, defining ourselves and each other, and learn the 5 steps to a healthy relationship.

11:15-12:15

A. L. L. Y. (Assisting, Learning, Leading, and You)

Presenters: Kaden Alexander, Evie Renee Arroyo, Reniyah Botley, Jonovia Chase, Alexa Lambertis

The focus of the workshop will help participants understand exactly what a Trans identified individual needs in order for someone to be a true “Ally”.  We believe being an “ally’ requires everyone to go through the stages of: Assisting, Learning, Leading, and You, in order to fully become an active and educated participant. This workshop will teach everyone how to meet each other where their understanding lies and become active participants in improving the current climate for Trans-identified individuals.

Safe Schools- K-12 Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Student Organizing

Presenters: Kiwi Grady of GLSEN

Calling all K-12 Transgender and Gender Non-conforming Students! Do you experience bullying and harassment in school due to your gender identity and/or expression? Do you feel unsafe using bathrooms and/or locker rooms at your school? Do you feel excluded from school athletic programs and activities? Is the school nurse's office a site of anxiety for you? Do you have a LGBT-focused student club on campus that ignores or tokenizes trans people and issues? If so, know that you are not alone. Come to this workshop and meet other K-12 transgender and gender nonconforming students and explore what YOU can do to create safe schools for all, regardless of gender identity and expression. This session is open to transgender and gender nonconforming people who are enrolled in a K-12 school and/or who are under 18 years of age.
